2001: A Space Odyssey  (movie)

While a bit slow, this visual and audio-masterpiece (directed by Stanley Kubrick and music written by Richard Strauss) is incredible for its time. If you have/when you do watch it, think about the fact that when it was made (late 60s), they did not have cgi, or for that matter any sort of computer that even worked within modern day reason.

Ok. This is a weird movie because I can watch almost any movie and completely understand it, first time but this one made absolutely no sense whatsoever. When I later looked it up on IMDB it all made almost perfect sense. When the apes at the beginning of the film find a monolith that has seemingly just appeared there, it speeds up their process of evolution. Later, when the humans find another one on Mars, it gives us the opportunity to do the same. This then spawns a race between the HAL 9000 computer (on the Jupiter mission) and the humans on the same mission to reach the monolith and earn the next stage in evolution. This explains what the end is all about (rebirth).

I don’t know if it had any problems because I was just sooooo confused at the time and was busy trying to understand it.

Artistic impression: 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟

Enjoyment: ⭐️

  1. 2001 is a movie that grows on you. When I first saw the movie, I hated it and din’t understand what was going on. After giving it a second chance, I fell in love with it and it’s now one of my favorite movies.
