Passengers (Movie Review)

A very misadvertised yet thoroughly enjoyable movie ticks all of the boxes but doesn’t live up to the hype. While I enjoyed watching this movie, I was disappointed by the end at the lack of plot twist that the trailers and adverts promised. Starring Jennifer Lawrence (X-Men: Apocalypse, The Hunger Games), Chris Pratt (Parks and Recreation, The Magnificent Seven, Jurassic World), and Laurence Fishbourne (The Matrix, Apocalypse Now), this unites the biggest young stars in current cinema for the first time. Both acting and CGI in this movie are stunning but the plot is a little disappointing and the dialogue too perfect. I would only recommend this movie if you are a fan of any of the cast or a just looking for a fun space movie with a nice love story attached.

When Jim Preston, a passenger aboard the Avalon wakes up from cryogenic suspension 90 years before he is meant to (but no-one else does) he must find sanity and desire whether to wake someone else up – stranding them on the ship with only him for company – or live out the rest of his years alone.

Very misadvertised and the plot is somewhat lacking in creativity.

Artistic Impression: 🌟🌟🌟

Enjoyment: 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟

Overall: 🌟🌟🌟🌟

1) Reese Witherspoon, Rachel McAdams and Emily Blunt were all, at different times, cast in the lead female role in the film.

2) According to a news article by The Hollywood Reporter, both leads will be pulling down double digit millions: Chris Pratt will be paid $12 Million while Jennifer Lawrence is looking at $20 Million against 30% of the profits.

3) The voice of The Starship Avalon belongs to voiceover artist Emma Clarke , who is also one of the iconic ‘Please Mind the Gap’ voices on London Underground.

4) Keanu Reeves and Rachel McAdams were at one time attached to star, with Brian Kirk attached to direct.

5) Reshoots for the film were scheduled as late as October 2016 to “fix” story elements that were not working. This is probably what lead to the misrepresentation in advertisements.
